Unlocks at DMZ level 2: crafts gear from four Resources and extracted Ingredients using Recipes, and prints permanent FOB upgrades.
Unlocks at DMZ level 2 [1]. Crafts gear from Resources and 3D Printer Ingredients and is also how FOB stations are upgraded, given the right loot [2]. It hints where specific ingredients are most likely to be found, and you can pin recipes and ingredients to track them [2] [1].
Recipes. Most start locked. You get them from DMZ levels (DMZ progression: levels 1–70 and Dog Tag levels), DMZ Orders and looting: a looted Recipe is consumed when you exfil, added to the printer and pays 5,000 DMZ Cash [1]. A Lieutenant's loot room held a plate carrier recipe in Part 1's story (Keys and locked loot rooms).
Materials. Four Resources (Synthetics, Electronics, Chemicals, Metals) are broken down automatically as you loot; Ingredients such as Binding Catalyst, Biomaterials, Detonators and Control Units stay whole and must be extracted [1]. Commanders drop prized ingredients (Commander threats).
First recipes (level 2) [1]: Bandage (15 Synthetics, 15 Chemicals); Medkit (30 Chemicals, 1 Binding Catalyst, 5 Biomaterials); 1-Plate Armor Vest (25 Synthetics, 25 Metals); 2-Plate Armor Vest (50 Synthetics, 5 reactive metals); Small Backpack (25 Synthetics, 25 Metals); Medium Backpack (50 Synthetics, 5 Rigid Synthetics; it has Secure Slots).
Upgrades. Permanent FOB upgrades take several prints each: Bank, Stash item and weapon capacity, MIA recovery discounts, rarer ingredient printing, extra Dog Tag Case storage, Gunsmith discounts and more Vendor offers [1]. Categories: Upgrades, Consumables, Plate Carriers, Backpacks, Tacticals, Lethals, Field Upgrades, Fire Support, Gear (gas masks, NVGs, parachutes) and Ingredients.
From the evidence
The 3D Printer requires Resources, Ingredients, and Recipes to craft essentials, build loadouts, and upgrade the FOB.
Players report that the 3D Printer functions as a station for crafting gear and upgrading stations, and that the 3D printer itself can be upgraded. In DMZ, players report that 3D printer crafting is available and is used to create DMZ armor. According to player reports, crafting a 1-Plate Armor Vest requires 25 Synthetics and 25 Metals, while advanced armor types remain locked until their recipes are unlocked.
